incidents in our Foreign History. But we must know that to-day we have not only to humiliate ourselves forthe
21 Demands but also for all our failures in history; we are only availing ourselves of the present occasion (9th May) to express ourselves. What significance has a commemor-
ation? I have not been to many places; but during my stay
abroad for over 10 years, I never met with any occasion of commemoration. Why then we have had so many remembrance days? It is a good thing to have so many. But it may also be bad. Let me give you the reasons for my belief. In my district there is a proverb, "They will not weep until the coffin has arrived " It means that however seriously
ill a man may be, there is still hope of his recovery, and therefore nobody will weep for him until we send for the coffin. In our commemoration of May the 9th we mean to have
our coffin brought before us once every year for inspection, so as to give a prick to the conscience of our inactive and unfeeling fellow-countrymen. Thus out of 360 days every year, our fellow-countrymen would be in an inactive and unfeeling state for 359 days, and therefore I said that it is bad to have a commemoration. This not of great importance.
When Mr. Chan made a reference to Communism a little while ago, you were all filled with indignation. How could such a clever and intelligent man as Wong Ching Wai have been misled and remained so ignorant of the situation that we have had to cry him down? It is because Wong Ching Wai is a Chinese and will not wake up until the arrival of the coffin. We are sure he cannot betray our President, and we know that the pulse of China has stopped, but he still desires to cure a dead horse. This shows that our Chinese have been in a numb and paralyzed state. Can this be the case? I need not say anything about myself who am old, decayed and dull of

understanding.
